John H. Canniff, 62, of Dowagiac died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at his home.
A Committal Burial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 8, at the Committal Chapel at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, 61453 M-51, Niles, with Pastor Boyd Saylor of Keeler Church of God officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Hills. Friends may visit with the family before the service at 2 p.m. at the chapel. John was born Nov. 1, 1952 in South Bend, to Ivan and Edna (Hankins) Canniff. John married the love of his life, Deborah Sechman on Nov. 18, 1970, in Dowagiac.
He worked in construction in the Cass County area for many years beginning with the Yount’s Construction Company in Cassopolis. He operated a bulldozer and helped with new home construction.
John adored his daughters and grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed being outdoors in his garden where he grew tomatoes.
He was a deacon at the Keeler Church of God and helped with food baskets and the food pantry.
John is survived by his wife Deborah; two daughters, Debby (Rick) Jarvis of Crossville, Tennessee, and Pauline Canniff of Dowagiac. He also leaves behind four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers; and two sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Earl.
