Alec DeJonge is a senior on the Brandywine golf team.
What has been one of your greatestaccomplishments as an athlete?
AD: My greatest accomplishment so far is being medalist at districts.
What has been one of your biggestdisappointments as an athlete?
AD: Missing state by two strokes my sophomore year and one stroke my junior year.
What has been a hardship in your life?
AD: Losing my grandpa to cancer when I was in fifth grade.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
AD: My grandpa is definitely my hero. He had cancer three times and fought hard every single time and never let it bring him down.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
AD: When I am standing over my first tee shot.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
AD: When I played in the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour. I took a practice swing on the first hole and my club flew out of my hands.
How do you tend to workout/train when by yourself?
AD: I never work out by myself. My dad always goes with me.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
AD: I would play tennis.
Who would you say is your “biggest fan?” Why?
AD: My parents. They have always taken me to everything and enjoy watching me play.
How would you give away $50,000?
AD: I would give it to various organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
AD: The Ryder Cup team.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
AD: Have way too much time on my hands.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
AD: Not get mad at myself when I mess up a shot or get a bad score on a hole.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
AD: That a golfer can use a caddie at any level of competition.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
AD: When I was younger, a guy told me I would be the next Tiger Woods.
What was the scariest thing you have had to do? Are you glad you did it?
AD: I had shoulder surgery when I was 13 and was not sure how it would affect my golf swing. I am very glad I did it and my swing is much stronger now.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
AD: I watched a video where a guy hit a golf ball through a four-inch thick piece of wood.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
AD: Golf. It is relaxing to just play with friends, but I also love to compete when I get the chance.
