Harper propels Bobcats to win over Shamrocks

BRIDGMAN — A seven-run seventh inning propelled Brandywine to a 13-9 win over Berrien Springs in a Division 3 pre-district softball game at Bridgman High School Tuesday.
The Bobcats trailed 3-1 when it exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Michaela Hartline doubled home Justine Sater, who drew a lead-off walk to open the third inning. Kelly Harper followed with a double to score Hartline to tie the score at 3-3.
Morgan Crocker followed with the third straight double for the Bobcats to give Brandywine a 4-3 lead as Harper scored. Following a walk and a single to load the bases, Chelsie Luczkowski scored on a passed ball, while the final three runs of the inning all scored on Berrien Springs errors.
After the Shamrocks scored a run in the top of the fifth, Brandywine responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a triple by Sater, a single by Hartline and a double by Harper.
Berrien Springs made it interesting with a five-run seventh inning. The Shamrocks had six hits and used a pair of Bobcat miscues to cut the lead to four runs (13-9) before Hannah Hadden got a pop up to Sater at short to end the game.
Hadden gave up just three earned runs on 12 hits with eight strikeouts and just one walk.
Harper was 4-for-4 with four doubles and three RBIs.
Hartline was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Crocker doubled and drove in a run.
