SOUTH HAVEN — Visiting Dowagiac split its Wolverine Conference West Division opener against South Haven Thursday.
The Rams edged the Chieftains 4-3 in the opener before Dowagiac rallied to take the nightcap 11-3.
“We continue to be slow going with our bats,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We just didn’t take good swings in the first game. Good news is our bats came alive in the second game and we even scored three runs when they brought the pitcher in from the first game. McKenzie Herter, Riley Daly, and Megan Soderbloom are really seeing the ball well and getting good at bats and we have to work with the rest of the team to get them there as well.”
Daley was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs in the nightcap. Soderbloom was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two RBIs. She also doubled and drove in two runs in the first game.
Herter was 2-for-3 in the first game and 3-for-4 with a double in the nightcap.
Sabrina Ruiz (1-2) took the loss in the first game.
Taylor Hulett (4-0) won the second game as she allowed just three hits.
