Bucks finish second at Dowagiac tourney

DOWAGIAC - The Dowagiac varsity tennis team captured its own invitational tournament on Saturday.
The inaugural Dowagiac Invitational had the Chieftains with 20 points, while Buchanan and Three Rivers tied for second with 13 points. Dowagiac's junior varsity squad, which replaced Constantine, finished with two points.
Dowagiac swept the singles championships with Lisa Rubino, Ann O'Keefe, Taylor Towsend and Amelia First all going 3-0 on the day.
Dowagiac also won the title at No. 4 doubles with Kayleigh Sundman and Kate Duszynski.
Buchanan picked up three championships, as it took home the first three doubles flight titles.
Megan Vylonis and Robyn Bahr were champions in the first flight with Katrina Weldy and Courtney Miller winning the title in the second flight. Mary Martin and Brianne Weldy were champions in the third flight.
Dowagiac finished second at No. 1 doubles with Lindsay Tyler and Calie Daniels.
The Chieftains return to action today as they host St. Joseph in their first Big 16 Conference West Division match. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
