PORTAGE — The No. 9-ranked Mattawan Wildcats were too strong for the Niles Vikings in the Class A District semifinals Thursday night.
The Vikings were defeated by the Wildcats 25-12, 25-11 and 25-19.
“We didn’t play them as strong as I would have liked,“ Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “We knew were going to have to play smart, but that resulted in us playing a bit too safe. We had some great plays, but we never really got aggressive until the last set, and we couldn’t close the gap.
“I want my team to focus on the success of our season, especially our 30 wins. We are a very young team and these girls will be working hard in the off season to start preparing for next year. They are athletic and tough, and I hope to come back even stronger next fall.”
