Famous for offering everything for one dollar or less, the national chain discount store Dollar Tree is officially open in Niles.

Store Manager Darlene Stethem said a soft opening would take place from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Friday.

The grand opening celebration is set for Saturday. Miss Niles Danielle Villa will be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Free activities and food will be offered throughout the day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Stethem said kids could interact with costumed superheroes, have their face painted and play games for prizes at the grand opening.

The Dollar Tree is located at 1202 S. 11th St., across the street from McDonald’s and next to El Amigo Pepe. It is on the former Heart City Motors property.

While there are several Dollar Tree locations in the South Bend/Mishawaka, Indiana area, this is just the second one in southwest Michigan. There also is a Dollar Tree in Benton Harbor.
