Joseph L. Waters, of Dowagiac was born to eternal life on May 9, 2014, at the age of 94 following a brief illness. He was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Hickman, Arkansas to the late John and Annie (Halliburton) Waters.
A 71-year resident of Dowagiac, he was the beloved husband of Flora for 76 years, who survives. Loving father of James (Nancy) of Muskegon, Leroy of Benton Harbor and Larry (Adrienne) of Elm Grove, Wisconsin. His memory will also be cherished by 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Joseph will be lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons Henry, Milton and John (Joann) Waters. Also, his sisters Eddie Mae (Northern) Sanders and Beatrice Smith.
Joseph was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Clark Equipment Company in 1982 after 30 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and skilled mechanic who could repair or build most anything regardless of the challenge. Most importantly, he cherished his family who will deeply miss him along with all others whose lives he touched. Special thanks to Minnie Warren, Jimmy Chambers and Minister Walter Swann for their unwavering support and friendship.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from noon until the time of a celebration of Joseph’s life at 1 p.m. at Clark Chapel, 405 Center Street in Dowagiac. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac.
The memories of our precious Joseph will live on in our hearts and souls for all eternity. “Life is not forever, Eternal life is forever”
