Buchanan sophomore Alex Kilgore has qualified for the 2014 Short Course YMCA Nationals in Greensboro, N.C., which begin today.

He earned a spot at the nationals this weekend while competing in the Great Lakes Zone Meet at the Ohio State University Natatorium.

Kilgore qualified in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.18. He was seeded 11th heading into the race and placed seventh. He set a new team record in the 15 and over age group.

Kilgore also established new Mariner records in the senior division as he competed in the 50- and the 200-yard backstroke.

The Short Course Nationals continue through Friday.
