Years go by faster and faster

As you get older time seems to go faster.
Think back to last November. Thanksgiving came at the end of the month and there was a shorter time to prepare for the Christmas holidays. First Thanksgiving was priority. Turkey and dressing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pies to be prepared.
After Thanksgiving came the shopping, then gift wrapping, preparing food, writing Christmas cards, putting up decoration and you know that the house needed some spit and polish.
It was a short season and so much to do.
In about the middle of the holiday preparations I gave up. So I still have not addressed my Christmas cards, or made the usual fruitcake, or even sent out my thank you notes for Christmas gifts received.
And I think I will rethink my wishes for a white Christmas next year. I remember that I hoped for a white Christmas, little did I know what was in store for all of us. I’m sorry.
But before I cross off this past holiday as over and done, I want to go back and revisit the some of the events of the holiday season.
Edwardsburg was like a jewel in the darkness. The Main Street shone bright with holiday cheer. The village street department did a great job of putting up the lights around the library park and attaching the lighted wreaths to the light poles.
The Uptown Improvement Association arranged for the placement of the village Christmas tree in the vacant lot on Main Street. The tree was decorated by the UIA members. Neighbors all over the village decorated their property with Christmas lights. The Edwardsburg Museum was lit with lights and their tree was also decorated. A group of volunteers painted the windows of the businesses with delightful snowmen and other Christmas scenes.
It truly was a community effort. I hesitate to list all who helped preparing for the occasion but I will try and if I miss, someone please excuse it as a memory loss for me.
First the organizations that participated in the tree lighting ceremony: the Edwardsburg Fire Department, Uptown Improvement Association, Edwardsburg Presbyterian Church, the Leos and Bruce Stack and family, Santa and Mrs. Claus, R&R Towing, Carl Higley, and window painters, Diane Moroni, Shelley Brasslur, Pam Stephenson and sons, Terri McNaughton and sons, Liam McNaughton and Gene and Judy Montgomery.
The free breakfast at the fire department and the visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus added to the day.
Everything worked great and the only glitch was the luminaries, which were ready on the back deck of the museum but with the rain that came a few days before they were filled with water.
I am sure I missed several people who were responsible for the successful day, but thanks are in order for all who made it another great event for Edwardsburg.
Next up is the Memorial Day parade and festival. Hope to see you all again.
