A Niles man and three others were sent to the hospital after a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Berrien County.
Derek Kujawa, 31, of Niles, was taken to LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte, Ind., according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.
Police said officers responded to a two-car accident at the intersection of LaPorte Road (M-239) and Wilson Road in New Buffalo at 4:29 p.m. Witnesses and investigation at the scene led police to conclude that a sports utility vehicle driven by Cynthia Calahan, 62, of Union Pier, was south bound on LaPorte Road and turned in front of a car driven by Elisha Nevorski, 28, of LaPorte, Ind., who was north bound on LaPorte Road. Nevorski was trapped in her vehicle and was extricated by the New Buffalo Township Fire Department.
Also injured in this accident were passengers of the sports utility vehicle, Joshua Farnsworth, 35, of Michigan City, Ind., and Kujawa.
Farnsworth was transported by Med-Flight to South Bend Memorial Hospital. All others were transported to LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte.
All were reportedly in stable condition Sunday evening.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department reports that although this accident remains under investigation and no one has been charged, alcohol appears to be a factor.
