This year marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring,” the book credited with launching the environmental movement. The League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties will be presenting a program in honor of Carson at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Vickers Theatre in Three Oaks.

Titled “Rachel Carson: Her Legacy, Our Responsibility,” the program will feature Dr. Nancy Tuchman, vice provost and professor of biology at Loyola University. Tuchman will comment on the relevancy of Rachael Carson to her research, which is a $550,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency award to develop a sustainable approach for restoring wetland diversity in the Great Lakes, which also includes the Galien River, and harvesting these invasive species for renewable energy production.

The evening will begin with a 30-minute vignette from the movie “A Sense of Wonder.” Free popcorn. This meeting is open to the public at no charge. For more information on League activities, go to lwvbcc.org.
