BENTON TOWNSHIP — The Lake Michigan College Mendel Center, 2755 E. Napier Ave. in Benton Harbor, will host the third annual Winter Delights: A Festival of Wine, Food, and Jazz from 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 21 in Grand Upton Hall.
The event will feature more than 20 Michigan wineries, with winemakers and winery representatives on hand to talk to attendees about their wines. Representatives from Michigan State University’s viticulture program will also be on site to explain how one can start a vineyard.
Jazzmin II, featuring local musician Steven Reed, will provide the musical backdrop. The swinging jazz quintet features members of the local Lake Effect Jazz Big Band and guest artists, who will play jazz standards and classics, including swing tunes, bossas, ballads and popular jazz tunes from the 1920s and 1930s. The quintet will feature Reed on trumpet and flugelhorn, Chris Keech on tenor sax, Tim King on standup bass, Greg Cleveland on drums and local composer and pianist Larry Schanker.
Reed has been on the music scene in the twin cities area for nearly 35 years teaching music at St. Joseph High School and performing in jazz and classical organizations.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Call the Mendel Center box office at (269) 927-1221.
