Lonia Mae Saxton, 61, of Cassopolis, passed home peacefully to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Center for Hospice Care, in the presence of her family.

Lonia was born April 7, 1952 in Carrollton, Mississippi to Prince Albert and Henrietta (Thomas) Whirl. Her mother survives. She married Robert Lee Saxton November 30, 1967, in St. Louis, Missouri. He also survives. She was preceded in death by her father; one sister, Leona Elizabeth Hames; one brother, Henry James Steadman; and one grandson, Terrence James Willis.

Lonia had a passion for cooking. She will be remembered for how she always witnessed to her faith in the Lord. She was a long time bowler. She enjoyed shopping, dressing and getting her hair done. She was known personally by QVC. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She worked for the Cassopolis Public Schools for thirty years and retired as the Food Service Director. People still miss the way she did her menu and her good home style cooking.

Lonia will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Saxton I of Cassopolis; two daughters, Victoria Jean (Charles) Saxton Willis of Cassopolis, Veronica Jean Saxton of Niles; one son, Robert Lee Saxton II of Cassopolis; thirteen grandchildren, Joshua Michael Saxton, Ja Lana Jean Saxton, Evan Sevon Buck, Robert Marquis Saxton, Bryce Lee Saxton, Brayden Lee Saxton, Trinity Janae’ Willis, Tyriq Javon Willis, Tyrese Jamar Willis, Mason Lee Saxton, Madison Nicole Saxton, Makayla Jean Elliott, and Imari Lee Saxton; four sisters, Cora Lee Richardson of Chicago, Johnnie Mae (Irvin) Wilson of Chicago, Princie Mae Harper of Chicago, and Johnnie Lou (Michael) Cage of Chicago; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather Saturday, August 10, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 noon in Church of Cassopolis, 520 Pearl Street, Cassopolis, with the Reverend Herman Washington and Apostle Christopher Pittman officiating. Mrs. Saxton will be laid to rest in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Cassopolis.
