A Niles teenager will appear in a cast of 28 area youths during this weekend’s TeenStock summer production of Monty Python’s “Spamalot.”
Camden Roth, of Niles, will play the role of Concord, Lancelot’s horse, during performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Lake Michigan College’s Hanson Theatre. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults and $11 for students and seniors.
Tickets will be available at the door, but Director Susan Matheny encouraged people to reserve them ahead of time as last year’s production sold out. Reserve tickets by calling (269) 422-2930.
“Spamalot” is a musical “ripped-off” from the motion picture “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” “Spamalot” won the 2005 Tony Award for best musical.
The story follows the legendary tale of King Arthur and his knights of the round table. It features a bevy of beautiful showgirls, cows, killer rabbits and French people.
“It is a love note to the tale of Camelot, King Arthur and the Holy Grail,” said Matheny, who is playing the role of director for the 10th time. “It’s poking fun at it in a really loving way. This was designed for American audiences so you will find it funny and a little silly. I also think you will be amazed that it’s teenagers doing the performance.”
TeenStock is part of the Children’s Music Workshop in Stevensville. It is an arts and community service program for teenagers in grades 7-20. It offers young people in Southwest Michigan the opportunity to participate in community-service projects and full-scale plays and musicals.
Proceeds from the performance go back to TeenStock.
Principal roles are played by Joey Huizar, Max Daniel, Chad Roden, Nathan Neidlinger, Conor Rockhill, Patrick Hill and Julia Farrell Diefenbach.
Additional cast members include Taryn Hill, Ashley Bock, Camden Roth, Colin West, Seth Collins, Scott Burnett, CJ Arny, Erica Levy, Kelsey Trux, Miranda Stepka, Jocey Weberg, Carly Mazigian, Deanna Fife, Kimmie Staggs, Aidan Diefenbach, Brady West, Devin Scheff, James Burton, Ashli Scruggs, Sam Hulen and Cameron Collier.
