Couldn’t have been a better time

Niles couldn't have asked for more perfect weather for the 15th annual Niles Riverfest festivities that were held this past weekend. Riverfest has been one of Southwestern Michigan's most popular festivals since it began 15 years ago and it showed in the number of people that filled Riverfront Park from Thursday through Sunday.
Festival-goers from all over Michiana … all over the United States … spent the weekend watching the ever so popular "Anything That Floats" raft race, the AAA All Car and Truck show, enjoyed tons of great music, kids games and lots of food and arts and crafts that the Riverfest offered.
The annual Riverfest 5K Walk and Run was also a big hit with area runners and walkers.
The morning was perfect with the temperatures cool enough to wear a sweatshirt and U.S. Congressman Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph) did the honors of starting the race.
The Riverfest is coordinated by a volunteer staff and board members of Friends of Niles Riverfest, Inc. It is also supported by the donations of local individuals, businesses and organizations.
Much thanks, too, to Tom Majerek, who is stepping down as organizer of the "Anything That Floats" contest. Majerek can be credited with single-handedly reviving that wonderfully fun Niles tradition and injecting substantial life back into Riverfest. We look forward to witnessing Majerek on the float he helps create next year when he gets to be a participant, rather than the leader.
It's these generous people who make this weekend possible for all area residents and families to enjoy. Thanks to all who helped in making the Niles Riverfest again another fun, exciting and successful event.
