CASSOPOLIS - Many of local riders showed their stuff at the Cass County Fair Wednesday evening for the SJO Super Cross Championship Series.
This is the first Super Cross appearance at the fair, which was sponsored by the Elkhart Truth and North End Cycle.
Last year's races were cancelled due to weather conditions, which left a lot of riders anxiously awaiting this year's race.
Riders in a wide variety of classes competed for a chance at a championship win.
Among these riders was Niles' Blake Fernwalt.
Fernwalt competed in the 125c class and finished eighth, but he said he knows he could have finished higher.
Though he is only 16, Fernwalt admitted that he has no problem keeping up with guys who are older and more advanced that him.
Fernwalt began racing just two years ago and a big injury last year put a big dent in his sport.
Fernwalt is a member of SJO, which travels to fairs all over Michigan and allows riders to compete.
Fernwalt will be traveling to Monroe this weekend and plans to attend other races throughout the rest of the season.
No results from Wednesday's races were available at press time.
