Two assistant principals named in Niles

NILES - The Niles Community Schools board of education approved two new assistant principals for the district.
Zech Hoyt has been named the assistant principal at Ballard Elementary, a vacancy was created when Tim Bagby was hired as the principal at Brandywine Elementary.
Hoyt has been a fifth grade teacher at Ballard Elementary for the past six years.
The board also hired Wayne Borr to fill the vacancy of assistant principal at Ring Lardner Middle School position, a position which became open when Jim Knoll was named the principal at Niles High School.
Borr was a teacher at Niles High School from 1989-2002. He then took a position as director of student services with the Brandywine Public Schools and his most current position was as the director of apprentice training at Lake Michigan College.
In other business the Board approved a change to the districts athletic handbook, stating that the use, possession and distribution of any steroids or any other performance enhancing substances will not be tolerated.
The board also approved a handbook for the new Oak Manor Sixth Grade Center. "We usually don't have a handbook at the elementary level, but we have fashioned the one Oak Manor will be using, after the one used at Ring Lardner," Law said.
Mike Dreher was named the new board president; Elaine Miller, vice-president; Mary Crayton, secretary and Dana Daniels, treasurer.
