The fireworks displays in Niles and around the area couldn't be possible without the financial support from the Chamber of Commerce, area residents and businesses. A number of volunteers from the communities were also needed to help with parking and other areas.
Families were able to enjoy the show together thanks to those who worked so hard to make the show possible.
Let's also give a big round of praise to Niles resident Alexis Haimbaugh, who competed in the 32nd Annual International Cherry Pit Spit at Tree-Mendus Fruit Farm in Eau Claire on July 2, and was champion in the nine to 12 year old division.
Also those who helped in the planting of a memorial tree at the Niles Law Enforcement Complex for dispatcher Billy York, should be praised.
Congratulations to the White Sox for winning the FOP major league championship this week.
Thanks to U.S. Congressman Fred Upton for stopping at the Leader Publications office and for talking about what issues are prevalent in Washington D.C. today.
Another round of congratulations is in order for the Astros who won the FOP minor league championship and Intensity 16U travel softball team who finished second in the MASA class B state championships.
Doug Myers and Tim Fenton who have organized the fourth annual Burn Run in Niles, which is sponsored by the Niles Township and Howard Township Fire Departments and benefits the Great Lakes Burn Camp, for children who have been traumatized by fire.
And birthday wishes go out to Ethan Shelton, who started Shelton's Farm Market in Niles and is turning 102 this year.
