James H. Pugh Jr. of Buchanan, Mich., passed away at 4:35 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the age of 73.
Jim was a father of five, grandfather of eight, and a great grandfather of six. He is survived by his wife Joann L. Pugh of Buchanan, daughters Jackie Pugh of Niles, Amanda (Tim) McKie of Coloma and Laurie (Dale) Jacobs of Grand Haven, his son James (Kaye) Pugh of Niles, his brother Mike (Sharon) Pugh of South Bend, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James H. and Violet Pugh of South Bend, siblings Bob Pugh of South Bend and Pat Ann Cowsert of Granger, and daughters Sandy K. Pugh of Niles, and Mary Ellyn Stinchcomb of Niles.
Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran, and the light weight boxing champion in Tacoma, Wash., with the 4th Quarter Master Corp. from Fort Lewis, after serving 25 voluntary years.
He along with his number (31) retired from Bertrand Township Fire Department. James worked 26 years at Buchanan Metal form, and later worked for Electro-Voice in Buchanan until his retirement.
There was nothing that he loved more than his family, friends, fishing, Notre Dame, and his pets Shadow and Titus. James will be missed but never forgotten. His love will always be with us in our hearts and minds.
Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 8, from 4-8 p.m at Swem Chapel in Buchanan. A service celebrating his life will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Swem Chapel with Pastor Nate Babcock of the Buchanan Christian Church officiating. Burial will take place at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens following services.
