Little League districts heating up

Niles defeated both Vicksburg and Mendon in the first two rounds of the Michigan District 15 Little League 11-12 tournament.

Niles advances to the quarterfinals where it will host Coldwater Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Niles advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-1 win over Vicksburg Wednesday and a 15-1 victory over Mendon Friday night in Schoolcraft.

Niles will host Coldwater in the second game of a doubleheader at F.O.P. Park. Constantine and Mattawan will play in the other quarterfinal game beginning at 6 p.m.

Niles will also host the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. The championship game is set for Vicksburg Sunday at 4 p.m.

Dowagiac went 0-2 in the tournament and has been eliminated. The All-Stars were defeated by Constantine and Vicksburg.

The 13-14 Division districts will begin Wednesday at Schoolcraft.

Niles will face Mattawan in the first round at 6 p.m. The winner advances to face either Schoolcraft or Constantine Thursday at 6 p.m.

The semifinals are set for Saturday at 1 p.m. and the final for July 21 at 6 p.m.

Softball

Dowagiac fell to Mattawan 15-8 in the first game of the Junior Softball Division at Mattawan on Friday.

The two teams will meet again tonight at Mattawan. The contest begins at 6 p.m. Dowagiac must defeat Three Rivers in order to force a third and deciding game.

The winner advances to the state tournament July 16-21 hosted by Croswell-Lexington Little League.
