The Miss Cassopolis Pageant is back after a near two-year hiatus.
The pageant, which has switched leadership, invites Cassopolis community girls, ages 17 to 20, for sign-ups at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cass Public Library on M-60 to participate in the pageant. Donna Breden, the pageant’s new chairperson, has been working with other committee members to reinstate the contest. Breden’s daughter, Paige Breden, was crowned the 2010 Miss Cassopolis Nov. 11, 2009, the last time the pageant was held. Paige has held her title ever since. Breden said she hopes to get the word out about the pageant’s return.
“We want to get girls back into it, and, hopefully, they’ll come sign up Saturday,” Breden said Wednesday.
Girls entering the pageant must live full-time in the Cassopolis community, though it is not necessary to attend Ross Beatty Junior/Senior High School. Graduates living in the Cassopolis community may also compete is they are a freshman in college. The sign-up meeting Saturday is imperative, but not required.
“We’d like for the girls to be at sign-ups, but, if they have a really good reason as to why they can’t attend, we can always work with them,” Breden said. “We don’t want to deter anyone from coming out to participate.”
Applications can be completed at the library or sent to P.O. Box 423, Cassopolis, MI 49031. For more information, contact Breden at (269) 641-7957.
