NILES - It was the battle of the undefeated teams Wednesday night at Brandywine High School as the Bobcats softball team hosted Coloma for a shot at sitting at the No. 1 position in the Lakeland Conference.
Both teams were 8-0 in the LAC heading into the chilly doubleheader, but only one team could walk away with the win and Brandywine was able to do just that.
The Bobcats swept the Comets in both games winning the first 7-0 and 3-0 in the second.
Kelli Zache was the winning pitcher for the Bobcats in the first game against Helena Zandaski. Zache had eight strike outs and only gave up one walk.
In the second game Zache picked up the win against Haley Gire and had six strike outs and one walk.
Zache was also a big hitter for Brandywine bringing in two doubles and two RBIs in the second game.
Other top hitters for the Bobcats were Amanda Grice with two doubles, a single and two RBIs and Kendra Zache with two singles in the first game. In game two Dee Echevarria gave Brandywine two singles and a RBI.
The Bobcats, ranked No. 6 in Division 3, will host its own tournament this weekend and get some big practice for the up and coming district tournament.
The annual tournament is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
