The 12th annual Ride to Remember, organized by the Berrien County Riders, is slated for Sept. 9 as it makes it way through Berrien and Cass counties.
During the regular Dowagiac City Council Monday evening, council members approved to close East Railroad Street between East Division and Spaulding streets for the ride. The Berrien County Riders invited bikers, with any type of bike, to ride on the tour, which begins at the Berrien County Courthouse. Proceeds from the ride go to benefit the American Red Cross Berrien County Chapter for Local Disaster. The purpose of the ride is to honor fallen heroes and the victims of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
“Hundreds of bikers come through,” Mayor Don Lyons said after the meeting. “There is a police escort that leads them in.”
The Berrien County Police Department lead the riders through each point they ride through in the counties.
The ride will trail through several towns in Berrien and Cass counties, including Dowagiac. With registration for bikers beginning at 10 a.m., the ride will take off at noon. Bikers expect to arrive in Dowagiac around 1 p.m. and travel through the city until roughly 1:30 p.m.
Bikers who wish to ride must pay a $15 registration fee, with checks payable to the American Red Cross. To register for the ride, or for more information, contact Todd Kimball at (269) 757-1908. The ride begins at the Berrien County Courthouse, on the corner of Main and Port streets in St. Joseph.
