Buchanan baseball falls to River Valley

RIVER VALLEY - The Buchanan varsity baseball team fell to River Valley in two games Monday afternoon.
The Bucks suffered an 11-4 loss in the first game and 15-0 loss in the second game.
Buchanan, now 3-5 overall, stayed scoreless until the top of the sixth when it scored two runs to put it on the board. Three more runs in the bottom of the sixth gave River Valley a nine-run lead over the Bucks, 11-2. Buchanan was able to score two more runs in the top of the seventh, but three outs were made before the Bucks could score anymore runs.
The Mustangs took the 11-4 win.
Bobby Schiller was the winning pitcher for River valley over Ray Payne.
Jeremy Lucas was the top hitter for the Bucks with a solo home run.
Keith Zabel had a double, Quinn Watkins went 2-3 and Jerry Schaffer 2-4 with a double for River Valley.
The second game was even worse for the Bucks than the first. River Valley took over and held Buchanan scoreless. The Mustangs scored one run in the bottom of the first, four in the bottom of the second, six in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the fourth to give them the 15-0 game win.
The game was ended in the fifth due to the 10-run rule.
Wuinn Watkins was the winning pitcher for River Valley over P.J. Pollock.
Top hitters for the Mustangs were Zabel who went 3-4 with a hom run. Kevin Zabel with a triple and Jeremy Schaffer who went 3-4 with a triple.
The Bucks return to action on Wednesday at home against Watervliet. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
