Three of five Keeler Township board members were apparently removed from office Tuesday in a very close recall election.

The vote on Supervisor Bill Kays was 324 yes to 320 no, with 42.5 percent of 1,542 registered voters going to the polls.

Kays has been supervisor in the Van Buren County township that includes Sister Lakes for 26 years.

Trustee Don Blackmond was ousted, 340 yes to 300 no.

The tally for Trustee Patrick Daly was 323 yes to 316 no.

Treasurer Bob Millhouse (317 yes to 323 no) and Clerk Carl Davis (303 yes to 341 no) survived the recall election, unofficial returns indicate.

The board was targeted for recall because of its decision effective April 1 to contract with Coloma Emergency Ambulance Inc., doing business as CEMS Medical Transport.

Road millage passed 359 yes to 286 no and voters approved police millage 376 yes to 267 no.
