Though the graduation caps have flown and the celebratory parties have ended, many Ross Beatty Junior/Senior High School graduates will begin taking advantage of their scholarships, totaling $779,250.
During the May 9 Honors ceremony at the high school, 27 of 82 students received scholarships from local organizations and universities across the country. While some students received multiple scholarships to different colleges, many will make the decision to choose which scholarship to take advantage of in the fall.
“Many of the scholarships are local,” Victoria Beebe, high school secretary, said. “There are quite a few of those. Then there are the college scholarships that students received themselves.”
According to Beebe, the reason so many scholarships are received is due to the hard work of the students and the Cassopolis community’s donations.
“The community is so generous in giving scholarships (to the students),” Beebe said. “It’s really a great thing to see.”
Beebe also said that once the Honors ceremony takes place is when the year-end festivities truly begin.
“That’s what it’s all about around here—the end of the year and celebrating all those accomplishments,” Beebe said. “It’s fun to see the students getting rewarded for all the work they’ve put in.”
The graduating class of 2012 matriculated Sunday, May 20, in the Ross Beatty Junior/Senior High School gymnasium.
