More than 150 high school students from all over southwest Michigan are expected to compete in Lake Michigan College’s High School Hospitality and Culinary Arts Student Summit and Chili Cook-Off Friday at LMC’s Napier campus.
Students will take part in a team chili and cornbread cook-off. They will prepare the chili and corn bread on-site. Students will also attend a roundtable discussion about food service and lodging careers to be conducted by industry leaders.
Current LMC hospitality students will be on hand to talk to high school students about what it is like to study hospitality at the college level.
The goal of the event is to show high school students the career opportunities available with a college education in the hospitality industry. Students will also be able to bring their portfolios, which will be critiqued based on how useful those portfolios would be in a job search process.
The event begins with a chili and cornbread cook-off at 9 a.m. The event wraps up with an awards ceremony from 12:45 to 1 p.m.
Lake Michigan College’s Napier Campus is located at 2755 E. Napier Ave. in Benton Harbor.
