WASHINGTON – Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., issued the following statement Tuesday on the decision of the U.S. Postal Service to delay the closing or consolidation of any post office or mail processing facility until May 15.
“I am pleased that the Postal Service has responded to the concerns that I and other senators raised about these closings. These facilities are vital to many communities, and I continue to believe that the Postal Service should allow for extensive public comment and consideration of alternatives before a community loses its post office or mail processing facility. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved legislation in November that should help in that regard.  This delay will allow time for Congress to consider comprehensive postal reform that preserves vital services and the Postal Service’s financial stability.”
