Frances Arlene Dorn, 72, of Berrien Springs and formerly of Vandalia, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at her residence with her family at her side.
She was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Vandalia to Melvin and Emma (Vickers) Whitmyer. She ran an in-home adult foster care home for 34 years.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Millie Hunsberger, Evelyn White, Rosaline “Booty” Townson, Helen Huges and Bertha Englemyer; and three brothers, Paul Whitmyer, Walt Whitmyer and Jim Whitmyer.
Frances is survived by two daughters, Diane (Denny) Kobb of Niles and Brenda Disterheft of Eau Claire; one son, Howard Dorn of Buchanan; six grandchildren, Dana Jenkins of Cassopolis, Dawn Wilkins of South Bend, Ind., Darla White of Niles, Erica Norton of Eau Claire, Zack Norton of Eau Claire and Randy (Sara) Orpurt of Berrien Springs; five great-grandchildren, Courtney, Jessica, Christopher, Brielle and Drake; one great-great-grandson, Jazavior; three sisters, Verla May McKee of Cassopolis, Emma Underwood of Cassopolis and Dorothy McClain of Dowagiac; three brothers, Willis (Geraldine) Whitmyer of Cassopolis, Clarence “Bo” Whitmyer of Dowagiac and Johnny Whitmyer of Marcellus; and her companion of 13 years, Roy Brownell.
The family prefers memorial contributions be made to Berrien County Cancer Service, Inc., 7301 Red Arrow Highway, Stevensville, MI 49127 or Lakeland Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085.
Family and friends gathered at Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway St., Cassopolis, on Monday, Nov. 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. Interment followed at Reames and Norton Cemetery, Cassopolis.
