Stanley Frederick Cabell, born in Chicago, transitioned Jan. 13, 2005 in Toms River, N.J. He was born March 11, 1923.

Suzue Kaikawa Cabell, born in Aichi Ken, Japan, transitioned May 13, 2011 in Bonita, Calif. She was born Oct. 11, 1925.

Stanley and Susie were married Sept. 28 1951 in Tokyo, Japan at the America Consular Service, Tokyo.

Stanley was well-known in Cassopolis for his prowess as a Cassopolis Ranger football star in the late-1930s. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He re-enlisted and retired in 1965 as a 1st lieutenant (battlefield-commissioned). He earned the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, with two Bronze Stars; the Good Conduct Medal; two Outstanding Service Bars; a Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp; and a Victory Medal.

He later went on and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Long Island University and Farleigh Dickinson University in physics, and he retired from Bell Laboratory as a physicist. There, he was a pioneer in developing the 911 Call System that is used throughout the U.S. today for emergency calls.

While at The U.S. Army Electronics Command, he pioneered with a team member the Thin-Film Preparation Technique widely used in the making of semiconductor chips.

Susie was a well-known costume jewelry designer in New York City.

They had a great love for Cass and often visited the area just to keep in-touch with their roots. Cass is where Stanley and Susie wanted to rest for eternity.

Stanley is preceded in death by his mother, Riva Henderson Cabell; father, Seth Cabell; brother, Hubit Cabell; and sister, Joan Cabell Mitchem.

Susie is preceded in death by her father, mother and brother.

They are survived by his son, Kevin Cabell; granddaughter, Tomiko Suzue of New Jersey; three grandsons, Jean-Paul, Kevin and Anwar; along with several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Stanley and Suzie Cabell, formerly of Cassopolis, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 18 in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Cassopolis.

The combined honor guard of the William E. Lozier VFW Post 10704 and the Efton James American Legion Post 206, Cassopolis, will be providing military honors for Stanley Cabell.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connelly Chapel, Wagner Family Funerals, Cassopolis.
