Candidates for school board must file by Tuesday

The filing deadline for candidates interested in running for election to their district school board is Tuesday.
Those interested should file with the Cass County Clerk.
According to the Cass County Clerk’s office, by 4 p.m. Tuesday, local school board candidates who wish to seek office at the May 3 election must file an Affidavit of Identity and a nominating petition. A $100 nonrefundable fee may be filed in lieu of a petition. Withdrawal deadline elapses at 4 p.m. Feb. 11.
The filing schedule is as follows:
• By Feb. 22 — Ballot wording of proposals qualified to appear on ballot certified to county and local clerks.
• By March 19 — Absent voter ballots must be available for issuance to voters
• April 4 — Last day to register for election
• By 4 p.m., April 22 — Write-in candidates Declaration of Intent Forms needed
In Edwardsburg, two seats are open on the board as Birdella Holdread and John Feil face expiring terms.
In Cassopolis, four seats are open on that district’s school board including three four-year and one two-year term. Those seats are currently held by board president Christine Locke, vice president Jeremy Carlisle, treasurer Charlene Lee and trustee Scott Ward.
In Berrien County, County Clerk Louise Stine said very few filings have been received for school board candidates and a reminder was sent out to districts Tuesday.
