Edwardsburg sweeps past Coloma Comets

Host Edwardsburg outscored Coloma 17-10 in the third quarter Tuesday night to break open its Lakeland Conference boys’ basketball game.

The Eddies led 24-12 at halftime, but increased their lead to 41-22 heading into the fourth quarter on their way to a 43-34 win over the Comets.

The victory improved Edwardsburg to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Comets dip to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in conference action.

Josh Kozinski led the Eddies, who opened up an 11-8 advantage after one quarter of play, with a game-high 17 points. Edwardsburg also got nine points from Kyle Dale and six points from Kyle Slack.

Cortez Childs led the Comets with 16 points. Gregor Gombert added 12.

Holiday tournament

WHITE PIGEON – A big first quarter propelled host White Pigeon to a 56-45 victory in its own holiday tournament Dec. 30.

The Chiefs (6-0) outscored Edwardsburg (3-3) 19-9 in the first eight minutes of play and never looked back.

The Chiefs increased their advantage to 16 points (33-17) by halftime and took a 20-point (46-26) advantage into the final quarter. It was the second time this season that White Pigeon had defeated Edwardsburg.

Tanner Nichols led the Chiefs with a game-high 15 points. Cory Wynkoop added 13.

Josh Kozinski led the Eddies with 13 points. Ethan Zimmerman chipped in with 11 points.

The Edwardsburg girls’ basketball team remained undefeated in the Lakeland Conference Tuesday night with a commanding 45-27 victory over visiting Coloma.

The Eddies (6-2, 4-0 Lakeland) outscored the Comets 12-2 in the second quarter to take charge of the contest.

After grabbing a 10-6 lead after one, Edwardsburg rolled into halftime with a 22-8 advantage. The Eddies led by 20 (37-17) going to the final stanza.

Rachel Vite led a balanced Edwardsburg attack with a game-high 16 points. Sarah D’Amico added 12 and Emily Kozinski eight.

Coloma was led by Julie Timm’s 14 points.

Coldwater tournament

COLDWATER — The Edwardsburg girls’ basketball team finished the Coldwater Holiday Tournament with a 1-1 record.

The Eddies rebounded from an opening night to the host Cardinals to defeat Fremont, Ind. 46-41.

The Eddies grabbed an early 12-10 advantage and led 27-25 at halftime as both teams scored 15 points in the second quarter.

Neither team could find the range in the third quarter as they combined for 11 points.

Fremont edged the Eddies 6-5 to cut the lead to 32-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Edwardsburg held a 14-10 advantage on the scoreboard in the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.

Vite led the Eddies with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Sarah D’Amico added nine points. Emily Kozinski finished with seven points and six rebounds.

Ashley Streb also scored seven points for Edwardsburg.
