Tornado warning issued for Berrien County

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Berrien and Cass county, in effect until 10: 15 a.m. this morning.

A strong line of storms resulting in numerous severe weather watches and warnings is moving through the region now and is beginning to affect southwest Michigan.

A tornado warning has also been issued for La Porte County in northwest Ind., northwestern Pulaski County, western St. Joseph County and Starke County also in Indiana.

A tornado watch has been issued for neighboring Cass County.

Bracing for severe weather

The threat of severe weather became evident last night as a line of severe storms threatened the Chicago area. The National Weather Service has also issued high wind warnings and tornado watches for the surrounding area.

A “severe squall line” of thunderstorms is moving through the northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan region with the ability to produce damaging winds in excess of 70 miles per hour and isolated tornadoes.

Those in the path of these storms are advised to seek shelter immediately.
