The Edwardsburg volleyball team went 1-3 at the Bronson Invitational on Saturday.

The Eddies defeated Pewamo Westphalia 25-22 and 25-15, lost to host Bronson 20-25, 25-16, 15-6, lost to Clinton 25-21 and 25-21 and lost to Madison 25-19 and 25-17 in pool play.

Edwardsburg was 13-12-7 entering Wednesday night’s match against rival Cassopolis and 2-1 in Lakeland Conference play.

Cass vs. Bridgman

The Rangers were defeated by the Bees in Lakeland action 25-14, 25-12 and 25-4.

Cassopolis played well against Bridgman in the early going, trailing just 14-11 before the Bees went on a run to take the opening set.

In the second set the same was true with Bridgman leading 13-8, but then going on a run to take a 2-0 lead. The third set had the Bees’ Meg Berndt serve up 10 consecutive winners to take a 12-3 advantage.

Bridgman never looked back.

The Bees also won the JV match 22-25, 25-20 and 15-6.

Decatur Invitational

On Saturday the Rangers competed in the Decatur Invitational and went 0-3.

Cassopolis lost to the host Raiders 25-15 and 25-17, to Lake Michigan Catholic 25-15 and 25-15 and to White Pigeon 25-18 and 25-11.

Sullivan had 17 assists for the Rangers, who also got nine kills from Transou, while Hillyer had six kills, four blocks and six aces. Meagan Ruff finished with 20 digs.

“The girls played as a team and it showed throughout the day,” Cass coach Brooke Brawley said. “They did a great job defending and holding their own against more experienced teams.”

Cassopolis vs. New Buffalo

On Monday night, the Rangers were swept by New Buffalo 25-13, 25-13 and 25-13.

“The ladies worked hard to defend New Buffalo’s hitters,” Brawley said. “Even though the scores don’t prove their total effort, the girls worked together.”

Transou and three kills and 10 points for Cassopolis, which also got six points and a kill from Ruff, three blocks and three kills from Hillyer and six assists from Sullivan.

The Ranger JV squad defeated New Buffalo 25-16 and 25-22.
