The Edwardsburg Police and Chief Kenneth Wray report multiple incidents June 1, making it a busy start to the month for area police.
According to a report by Wray, a bluish-green van was reportedly seen on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 1 at about 4 p.m. reportedly driving erratically northbound on M-62 near Redfield Street.
A following vehicle reported the van was all over the road and passing vehicles at a high rate of speed headed into town.
At the intersection of M-62 and U.S. Highway 12 the vehicle headed eastbound on U.S. Highway 12 and attracted the attention of the police as the driver passed by the front of the police department.
Police initiated a traffic stop and the driver was stopped at U.S. Highway 12 and Lane Road.
Wray reports the driver was found to be under the influence of narcotics.
Police also reportedly found a large amount of marijuana in the vehicle.
The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and possession with intent to deliver the narcotics.
The Cass County Drug Team was called in to assist in further investigation of the incident and will contine the investigation into this drug activity.
While officers were responding to the situation near the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and Lane Road, a motorcyclist reportedly traveled through the scene.
That driver was seen to be driving without a helmet.
Police initiated a second stop and found the motorcyclist did not have a valid driver’s license nor the paperwork to show ownership of the motorcycle he was driving.
Upon further investigation it was reportedly found the driver may have been involved in drug trading and was using assumed names to avoid a warrant out of Indiana.
Police initiated an arrest of the driver for possession of narcotics, no operator’s license and various other traffic violations.
The Cass County Drug Team again assisted the Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police in this investigation of drug activity and will continue the investigation into this event.
Police began transport of the motorcyclist to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department when they traveled through the Edwardsburg Marathon.
Citizens in attendance of the marathon reportedly flagged down police.
There, it was reported that a patron at the marathon had apparently gotten upset about the price of pop and assaulted the store manager.
Police conducted interviews and following those interviews, arrested a suspect in the assault.
Both citizens under arrest were transported to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department Correctional Facility.
