Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reported his office responded to a personal injury traffic crash just after 8 p.m. on May 5.

A vehicle operated by Emily Cernak, 17 of Edwardsburg, was traveling east on US 12 at Brush Road in Milton Township, when a vehicle operated by Rachel Bedford, 20 of Granger, was coming to a stop on Brush Road.
Cernak, believing that the vehicle was entering onto US 12, swerved to avoid a collision, ran off the roadway striking a stop sign and an embankment.

She sustained minor injures. A passenger, Cecilio Trevino, 19 of Edwardsburg, sustained a major injury. Both parties were transported to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center by Edwardsburg ambulance. Seatbelts were used by the driver, and not used by the passenger.

Cass County Deputies were assisted on scene by Edwardsburg Fire and EMS. This incident remains under investigation.
