Ontwa Township sets sights on updating Master Plan

Ontwa Township is currently engaged in the process to update its Master Plan. Once it is adopted, the plan will serve as an advisory guide for the development and preservation of the community.
The Michigan Planning Enabling Act gives the township the authority and responsibility to prepare and adopt a Master Plan. The statute requires that every community in the State review and update its Master Plan at least once every five years. The township’s current plan was adopted in 2005, and therefore the update effort is timely to comply with the law.
“Resident participation over the past few years has been increasing. The township’s leadership is seeking and encourages active citizen participation and this process will receive public input to be included in the Master Plan update,” said Chris Marbach, Planning Commission chairman.
Specifically, a visioning workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 13 at the Edwardsburg Fire Department, 69910 M-62 in Edwardsburg. During the workshop, the township’s planners will explain the planning process and offer the opportunity for the public to identify issues that the Master Plan should address.
