NILES - Nick Roth scored a game-high 35 points to lead Edwardsburg past Brandywine Saturday night in a Lakeland Conference basketball clash.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Eddies.
The Eddies and Bobcats were tied at 18 after eight minutes of play despite the fact that Roth netted 10 points in the first period.
Brandywine (1-8 overall, 0-4 Lakeland Conference) countered with a balanced scoring attack that had Mike Nagy, Billy Bussey and Brett Shoemaker all scoring four points.
The two teams remained tied at the intermission after scoring 19 points in the second period.
Roth added another seven points for the Eddies in the period, while Matt Horvath contributed six points.
The Bobcats again had a balanced scoring attack, but this time it was Matt Wieger leading the way with six points and D.J. Elrod with five. Matt Beaver chipped in with four points.
Brandywine actually took the lead in the third period as it outscored Edwardsburg 19-17.
Nagy pumped in seven points and Elrod six to lead the Bobcats offensively.
Roth continued his scoring onslaught with six more points. Doug Shuttleworth contributed seven points to keep the Eddies within striking distance.
It was all Edwardsburg in the final eight minutes as the Eddies exploded for 27 points while holding the Bobcats to just five.
Roth scored 10 points for the Eddies, who were 9-of-13 from the foul line. David Daniels added four points, while Tony Hayes added three points.
Brandywine got four points from Brett Shoemaker in the period.
Edwardsburg (4-6 overall, 1-4 Lakeland Conference) used a 16-0 scoring run in the final quarter to break open the close contest.
The Bobcats were up 58-54 when the Eddies went on their tear. By the time it was all over, Edwardsburg led 70-58.
Brandywine was just 2-of-14 from the field in the deciding quarter.
Besides Roth's offensive outburst, the Eddies got double digit performances from Shuttleworth with 15 points and Horvath with 10. Hayes, Daniels and Zac Rooney ades eight, seven and six points respectively.
Brandywine was led by Nagy and Shoemaker, both of whom scored 12 points. Elrod finished with 11 and Wieger nine points. Beaver contributed seven.
Brandywine heads back to the hardwood on Tuesday as it travels to Three Oaks to face River Valley in another Lakeland Conference tilt.
