CASSOPOLIS – Cass County Road commissioners will check out a driveway problem as a result of cutting down a hill to improve vision of oncoming traffic.
The intersection of Oil City Road and Davis Lake Street has been a sore spot for motorists for years who have complained that vision was impaired by a hill on Davis Lake Street for those wanting to turn east from Oil City Road onto Davis Lake Street. Years ago there was talk of making the intersection into a three-way stop and/or rerouting Oil City Road behind the farm house at the corner now occupied by Joel and Karen Meyers and family on Davis Lake Street in Jefferson Township.
Meyers requested at Thursday's meeting of the road commission to have his driveway repaired. He said the driveway needs repairing since the coating put on it from the construction is deteriorating. Meyers asked that the driveway be resurfaced and not a sealer put on because it "won't do the job."
Road Superintendent Rick Janssen will check into getting an estimate to have the driveway repaired and will report back at the July 17 meeting.
In other matters, the commission approved three contracts. Two are in Silver Creek Township and the third is in Penn Township.
Silver Creek will recap and gravel shoulders to Middle Street for 130 feet from East Bay north to the joint at a cost of $997.20. East Bay Street will be recapped with gravel shoulders 0.14 miles from M-52 to Lakeshore Drive at a cost of $6,241.50.
Penn Township will recap with gravel shoulders 0.86 of a mile on Decatur Road from Crooked Creek Road to Shore Acres Street at a cost of $64,767.
The quarterly safety award of a $50 savings bond for being accident free go to Johnny Fonseca, Reuben Hodgson, Dustin Miller and George Kirst.
The commissioners went into closed session to discuss union contract negotiations.
