Former Edwardsburg High School athletes Monty Ort and Ryan Stoneburner have both rostered at Kalamazoo Community College this season.
Stoneburner, a freshman made the Cougar team during tryouts last fall. Ryan shot an 82 in the first round, 81 for the second, 83 in the third, and a 79 and 80 for the final two.
He is currently the sixth man on the squad.
Stoneburner was a two-time Lakeland Conference medallist while at Edwardsburg.
It was the first time for the Eddies in at least a decade.
"He is a serious student athlete and is working hard to improve his game," Cougar coach Dick Shilts said. "The extent of his contribution on this year's team is yet to be determined. We play six and count four each match, his score will count."
Monty Ort, also a freshman for the Cougars, is a right handed pitcher who's primary role is a closer.
"He is throwing the ball very well and he has a great attitiude as a pitcher," Cougar skipper Bernie Vallier said. "He is doing very well academically and figures to be a major contributor if we are to be successful this spring."
Ort has appeared in six games this season with 10 innings pitched along with ten strikeouts.
He currently boasts a 2.70 era.
Also on the roster is former Ranger Leddrew Smith. Smith, an outfielder, is also contributing to the team and program.
The Cougars, a member of the MCCAA, (Michigan Community College Athletic Association) will be looking for a return trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association regional tournanment in Battle Creek this season.
