CASSOPOLIS – A Niles man, Mark Hughes, 58, died last Thursday at Camp Wagner in Calvin Township after being pulled from the swimming pool.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported that at 1:14 p.m. June 14, deputies from his office responded to the camp on Brownsville Street in regards to a medical emergency.
Upon arrival, deputies found that a subject pulled from the swimming pool was unresponsive.
Deputies, along with fire and emergency medical services personnel, attempted to revive Hughes, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has been ruled from a heart attack, not drowning, by the medical examiner. Assisting at the scene were Penn Township Fire Department, Edwardsburg ambulance and LifeCare ambulance.
