EDWARDSBURG - "This Is America" was the theme of the musical presentation by second-graders of the Eagle Lake School last Wednesday held at the Middle School Auditorium before an audience of standing-room only.
The students were dressed in red, white and blue clothing for the patriotic presentation that brought the audience to their feet during "The Pledge of Allegiance," "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "God Bless the USA" with shouts of cheering and clapping particularly with the rendition of "I'm Glad to be an American."
One small child in the audience was so excited he sang loudly with his own version of the patriotic songs that brought laughter and cheers from everyone.
The students were divided into four sections with each section performing on the stage at one time with singing, dancing and verbal presentations.
The students also sang, "This Is America," "I Love My Country," "God Bless America," "Mighty United," "Sixteen Tons," "I've Been Working on the Railroad," and "40-Hour Week."
Parents, family and guests commented afterward that the program was "excellent."
The program was arranged by Teresa Jennings, music directed by Angela Felabom and sound by student teacher Robin Blume.
Teachers included Janet Briggs, James Cebra, Leigh Goyings, Cindy Hansel, Mark Nowak, Danielle Swihart and Shelly Czarnecki.
Special thanks went to the second-grade teachers and student teachers; secretaries Jeriann Wilfert and Robin Dudiak; the custodial staff; Superintendent Sherman Ostrander; Debra Cripe, curriculum director; Eagle Lake Principal James Hendress and to room helper Judy Montgomery for the donations of the flags that adorned the stage.
