Cassopolis wrestlers romp past Bobcats

NILES - Eighth ranked Cassopolis proved Wednesday night why it was deserving of that Division 4 ranking.
The Rangers breezed by the Bobcats 46-30 in a Lakeland conference match that lasted a little over an hour.
Brandywine's Pat VanLeare gave Brandywine its first pin in the opening bout at 119-pounds against Ashley McCoy. VanLeare pinned McCoy 43 seconds into the second period giving Brandywine a quick 6-0 lead.
Josh Cole got the first pin for Cassopolis against Brandywine's Adam Saltsman at 125-pounds. Cole's pin came in 1:25.
Zach Deubner quickly gave the Rangers their second pin in the 130-pound weight class as he used just 1:31 against Brandywine's Lance Tallaferro.
Brandywine's Jordan Bruni was able to make it to the second period of the fourth match in the 135-pound class, but was pinned in 2:59 by Cass' Justin Tucker.
Kyle Perry was also able to make it to the second period at 140 in an aggressive attempt to pin John McCoy. McCoy had six take-downs in the second period and pinned Perry in 3:18.
Kenny Brown pinned Brandywine's Coulter Kane at 145 in 1:49.
Cassopolis was up 30-6 going into the seventh match.
Cass' Randy Hemminger weighed in at 140 before the match, but wrestled in the 152 weight class. Michigan rules state a player cannot move up two weight classes. Hemminger was disqualified giving Brandywine's Justin Price the victory and six points, making the score 30-12.
Cassopolis' Joey Sobieski and Josh Duebner both earned decisions over the Bobcats at 160- and 171-pounds respectively.
Sobieski scored a major decision with his 14-5 win over Joel Perry, while Josh Duebner decisioned Kyle Jones at 171.
Brandywine picked up its second pin of the night when Adam Simons quickly stuck Cass' John Wirick in 20 seconds at 189-pounds.
Wirick also had a point deducted from the Rangers for taking off some of his uniform before he was off the mat.
Brandywine added another six points to their score, but were still down 37-18.
Jeremy Hechtl gave Brandywine another pin in the 12th match at 215. He pinned Josh Turnbow in 2:13, cutting Cass' lead to 12 points.
In the heavyweight division, Cass' John Grice and Brandywine's Jeremy Howell went into double overtime.
In the 112 division, the last match of the night, Cass' Cordero Williams was able to pin Brandywine's Ryan Horner in 20 seconds.
Brandywine is now 0-3 in the conference. Cassopolis improves to 4-1.
