Edwardsburg golfers fall to Chiefs

Victories have not come easy for the Dowagiac varsity golf team this season, however, the Chieftains picked one up Wednesday afternoon at Hampshire Country Club against host Edwardsburg.
The Chieftains got a 40 from senior David Maxey en route to shooting 178 as a team -- five strokes better than the Eddies, who finished with a 183.
Kyle Owen shot 41 for the Chieftains, who also got a 47 from Scott Wilkinson and a 50 from Ken Scott.
Ken Franz and Craig Schuur shot 54 and 56 respectively.
John Muff led Edwardsburg, which was coming off a sixth place finish on Tuesday in the Lakeland Conference jamboree at Diamond Lake Golf Course in Cassopolis, with a 43.
Jesse Johnson shot 44 for the Eddies, while Adam Horn shot 46. Sam Ludwig finished with a 50. Nate Gabbarn shot 51 with Ryan Stonebreaker shooting 54.
Dowagiac also won the junior varsity match as well.
The Chieftains shot 201 compared to 205 for the Eddies.
Richie Hutchinson led the Chieftains with a 45. Adam Carlson shot 49, while Jeremy Shank shot 52, Austin Lawrence shot 53, Michah Null shot 58 and Cameron Lawrence shot 67.
Ryan Peters led Edwardsburg with a 47. James Hentz shot 51 with Khris Merrill shooting 52. The Eddies also got a 55 from Robbie Sevison, Jordan House and Tanner Leininger. Tim Peterson shot a 64.
Bridgman won its second straight Lakeland Conference golf jamboree Tuesday at Lake Michigan Hills near Coloma.
Bridgman finished with a team total of 185 to defeat runner-up Buchanan which finished with a team total of 186. Coloma was third at 188 with River Valley fourth at 188 and Edwardsburg fifth at 193.
Cassopolis, Brandywine and Berrien Springs rounded out the order of finish.
Coloma still leads the overall standings with 22 points. River Valley is second with 18 points, while Buchanan is third with 15. Brandywine has 14 points, while Cassopolis and Bridgman are tied fof fifth with 12 points. Edwardsburg is seventh with 11 points and Berrien Springs eighth with four points.
The Rangers were led on Tuesday by Dan Stanage's 45. Mike Vite shot 51 for the Rangers, who also got a 52 from Will Loux and a 54 from Josh Ampey.
Edwardsburg was paced by Jesse Johnson's 46. John Muff shot 49, as did Nick Roth and Adam Horn.
