Chieftain baseball team sweeps Three Rivers

The Dowagiac baseball team put together a solid performance in all area’s of the game Tuesday night to sweep a Wolverine Conference doubleheader from visiting Three Rivers at Rotary Park.
The Chieftains edged the Wildcats 7-6 and 9-6.
In the opener, Zac Hyatt and Jason Turner combined on a seven-hitter with nine strikeouts and just one walk. Hyatt worked the first five innings and Turner the final pair to earn a save.
Dowagiac had eight hits in the first game, including a pair of doubles and three hits from Hyatt. Mike Pranschke had two hits for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac took the second game 9-6 behind the pitching of turner and a strong offense that produced three extra base hits.
Brett Scanlon and Cal Cox both had a pair of doubles for the Chieftains, who also got a double from Turner.
On Monday, the Chiefftains were swept by St. Joseph as they fell to the Bears 8-1 and 13-2 in non-conference action.

ST. JOSEPH — Visiting Dowagiac was no match for St. Joseph Monday night in non-conference baseball action.
The Bears defeated the Chieftains 8-1 and 13-2. The second game lasted just five innings.
In the opener, Zac Hyatt singled twice, while Brett Scanlon singled and drove in a run. Aaron Blaske took the loss for Dowagiac.
In the nightcap, the Chieftains used four pitchers with Chad Gravatt taking the loss.
Cody Carnell doubled for Dowagiac, which also got a single and two RBIs from Tony Brooks. Scanlon added a pair of hits.
