Niles senior guard Amber Peters started her season by accomplishing the rarest of feats.
In the Vikings season opening game at Gull Lake, Peters scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists - a triple double.
Peters worked hard enough to be named Niles Daily Star Girls' Athlete of the Week for Aug. 22-28.
Her feat was so rare, that Arnold said he can only think of one other player to get a triple-double in his 19 years at Niles. Stephanie Hardy did it in 2000.
The triple-double is something Peters has never done before. In fact, she's only had one double-double in her four years at Niles.
While points and assists are nothing new to Peters, standing at 5-foot-7 at a guard position, it might seem difficult for her to get double figure rebounds. Peters said that is not the case.
Arnold said her speed allows her to steal many rebounds away from the taller players on the court.
Though Peters stuffed the stat box against Gull Lake, Arnold said that isn't always the case.
While she might not put up gaudy numbers every night, she always works hard and helps out the Vikings in other ways.
Niles is 2-0 this season, largely because of Peters' hard work. But Peters said the Vikings have to work even harder to accomplish their goals this season.
