Vikings soccer loses first game

Niles lost its first soccer game of the season Thursday, falling 2-1 to Sturgis.
Defense dominated the match most of the night. The game was scoreless at halftime.
Niles (3-1) got on the board first with an unassisted goal by Michael Tanke with 22:26 left in the half. Sturgis tied the score with 10:14 remaining on a goal off a corner kick.
With the score still tied, Sturgis was awarded a penalty kick with 3:46 to go. Sturgis' player drilled the shot for the game-winning score.
Niles had its chances on offense. The Vikings missed two penalty kicks in the game, which would have been the difference between a win and a loss.
Sturgis outshot Niles 12-11.
