NILES - Another option for seeking relief for sufferers of chronic aches and pains is open in downtown Niles.
Health Zone Chiropractic opened at 70 E. Main St. in Riverfront Square in downtown Niles Monday.
Dr. William Robinson III opened his office here in Niles after searching the entire state of Michigan for a suitable location, he said.
Robinson narrowed his choice of location to Niles and Buchanan, but felt Niles was the more progressive of the two locations.
Robinson specializes in "natural chiropractic" practice, which involves making spine adjustments by hand, rather than using an instrument.
But chiropractic medicine is not limited to the neck and back. An irregularity in your spinal alignment can have implications on your general health, according to Robinson.
The first step in treatment is a computerized nervous system test, which measures nerve activity in the spine by heat generated in the blood vessels.
The second step is a computerized posture analysis where a picture is taken of a patient standing normally. The doctor can then pinpoint problem areas and the computer measure spinal deviation on each side of the spine.
A chiropractic exam follows to determine the degree of debilitation that is caused by the spinal irregularities uncovered in the computer tests.
If the problem is severe, x-rays are taken to see how the spine is physically alligned, offering clues on how to correct the aiment.
A spinal adjustment costs $45, with quick check-ups being free of charge.
There's also no need to worry about staying in the office long either. The first visit to the clinic is the longest due to paper work that needs to be filled. Most visits last less than 10 minutes, even when an adjustment i needed.
Robinson spent the first 20 years of his life in Washington D.C. before attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis., and earning a bachelor's degree in business administration.
After college, he worked as a stock broker in New York City and as a lobbyist for the National Association of Realtors in Washington D.C.
Robinson attended Logan College of Chiropractic, located in Winston Salem, N.C., in 1999 and earned a bachelor's of science degree in human biology in 2001 and a doctorate in chiropractic in 2003.
Before relocating to Niles, Robinson worked as an associate doctor at Health Zone Chiropractic in Gaylord, the sister clinic to the Niles location.
Robinson has a 20 year-old daughter, Fawn, attending Howard University in Washington D.C., and a 16 year-old son, William IV, attending high school in Washington D.C. Both children live with their mother, from whom Robinson is divorced. Robinson encourages everyone to get checked out for chiropractic problems at least once a week.
