KALAMAZOO — The Western Michigan football team will hold its annual Brown & Gold Spring Game at noon Saturday at Waldo Stadium.

The Broncos will be broken up between offense and defense and will once again use a modified scoring system. Activities prior to the game will include a student pre-game event and the inaugural Alumni Flag Football Game.

Fans can bring canned food items as “admission” for Saturday’s game.

The format of the spring game will be as follows. The ball will be spotted on the offense’s 30-yard line on each kick-off. A possession starts at the point the ball is blown dead on every punt. There will be running clock with four 15-minute quarters, except for the last two minutes of each half. That portion of the scrimmage will be treated as it would be in a live game. Unlike live games, at no time will the quarterbacks be open for contact during the scrimmage.

The offense can gain points in a variety of ways, as can the defense. The offense receives one point for every first down and successful point after try. Two points will be awarded to the offense for every play of 30 yards or more. The offense receives three points for every field goal and six points for every touchdown.

The defense will receive two points for forcing the offense into a three-and-out and one point for each stop of an offensive series.

The defensive unit will receive two points for a stop on fourth down and three points for forcing and recording a turnover. Nine points will be awarded for each defensive turnover resulting in a touchdown.
